Do you know your period?

Your period is the time of the month when your body is telling you "it's time to slow down". Time to rest while it is hard at work making changes internally.

As cyclical creatures your menstrual cycle goes through its own seasons. Your period being like your winter. It's a time to go inward and reserve your energy. Get comfy, meditate, journal, and reflect on the previous month. As well as plan the month ahead.

Here are some things your period would like you to know:

  • Don't force yourself to do any high-intensity exercises. Ever notice that when you're on your period you have less energy. That's because your hormone levels are at their lowest. Don't push yourself. It ends up doing more harm than good. Instead, take a hot bath and relax your muscles. It will ease any cramping or discomfort. Even better skip working out altogether. Opt for some light stretching, yoga, and maybe go for a walk.

  • Things like caffeine and alcohol can make cramping worse as well as give you a headache. That's because your body is more sensitive in this phase. Your liver has to work harder to process any alcohol when it's already hard at work processing any leftover hormones from your previous phase. Look for warming and comfort like herbal teas instead. Chamomile, Ginger, Chai, or Cinnamon are great options.

  • Avoid skipping meals overall. Skipping meals leads to an imbalance in your blood sugar levels. This may lead to hormonal imbalances down the road. You can also get more sugar cravings. Which makes your blood sugar levels spike. Opt for dark chocolate (70%+) and fruit instead. Maybe even some fruit and nut mix.

  • Add orgasming into your self-care. Orgasms release Oxytocin which is the love hormone that will boost your mood. It will also flush out the cortisol in your system. I mean you already know it's great overall lol. Try some orgasmic meditation to really flush out any cortisol. You can even work on your manifestations while doing it.

Your body ebbs and flows throughout the month. Going through different phases and changes. Not only physically but also mentally too. So thinking that you need to do the same things with the same level of energy day in and day out is silly. Instead of downing a double espresso and pushing through it, feel how your body feels. Realign with yourself and stop trying to fit into an ideal that hustling is the only way to move forward.

Your body is not a part of you, it is you!
